Qld: Govt promises to work "flat out" on security issues

The Queensland government says it's working flat out to address all the security concerns
raised by nurses in the Torres Strait.

The government's been under pressure about health workers' safety in the far north
since the alleged rape of a nurse on Mabuiag Island in February.

Health Minister STEPHEN ROBERTSON has told state parliament today .. security and maintenance
issues are being addressed .. and new health facilities with staff housing will open soon
on Warraber and Erub (Darnely) Islands.

He says they're also looking at a community escort program .. where a local community
member would accompany health workers on after-hours call-outs.
