Fed: Three state teachers strike over pay rise

Victorian, New South Wales and Western Australian teachers will strike next month overa wage dispute.

It is the first time teachers have taken industrial action across state borders.

The decision follows Australian Education Union claims that state Labor governmentshave colluded to reduce teacher salaries.

AEU Victorian president MARY BLUETT said teachers from all sectors will stop work onSeptember 17 in protest against the Victorian Government's pay rise offer of 2.25 percent.

She says the offer of 2.5 per cent is effectively a salary cut and teachers are absolutelyinsulted.
