SYSTEM UPGRADE HELPS THE FLOW OF ELECTRIC POWER.(BUSINESS)

ALBANY -- An equipment upgrade in power transmission facilities near Utica means more electricity will be able to flow into eastern New York, officials announced Friday.

The addition of 60 megawatts of capacity on the Utica-Albany transmission corridor could be important at times of peak electricity demand starting this summer, the New York Power Authority said.

The enhanced transmission capability comes through installation of a ``convertible static compensator'' at the Power Authority's substation in Marcy, near Utica. The compensator, which took two years to bring into service, regulates and stabilizes …
